A Christmas Reflection and Looking Ahead

Dear Friends,

As the Christmas season arrives, I’ve been reflecting on this past weekend and the joy of our Blue Royale Christmas Gala. Seeing the museum filled with music, conversation, and genuine fellowship was a powerful reminder that we are more than a building. We are a shared space—a kind of living room for the community—where history is not only preserved, but experienced together and made new in real time.

I want to pause and thank everyone who helped shape this past year. To the artists who trusted us with their work, the families who made the museum part of their lives, and the educators who believe deeply in the power of history to inform the future—your support sustains this mission. I am especially inspired by the young people who walked through our doors in 2025. Their curiosity and openness remind us that this work is ongoing and deeply meaningful.

Looking ahead to 2026 fills me with genuine excitement. The year to come will bring new opportunities for learning, imagination, and shared discovery for families and the wider community alike. Among these is an upcoming experience with Lightwire Theater, whose luminous, technology-driven storytelling beautifully reflects our commitment to honoring tradition while embracing innovation. It is just one glimpse of what lies ahead.

As we continue to expand our educational offerings and family-centered programming, we remain committed to creating space for young minds while fostering a meaningful exchange between past, present, and future. I hope you will continue to join us and support this work in the year ahead.

On behalf of all of us at the Northeast Louisiana Delta African American Heritage Museum, I wish you a peaceful Christmas season and a New Year filled with warmth, fellowship, and anticipation for the bright things to come.

With gratitude,
Ross Slacks
Executive Director
